Subject

Description

No. 7052
Black and white postcard of a crowd of guests from the Royal Poinciana sitting on benches beneath palm trees on the lawn of the Royal Poinciana Hotel. Palm Beach, Florida

Back: "COCOANUT GROVE - ROYAL POINCIANA. It is due to a shipwreck that the cocoanut trees abound here so plentifully; a Spanish brig, the "Providencia", laden with the fruit, was wrecked off this coast and the cocoanuts were washed ashore, to find growth in a congenial soil. There in the shade of the grove the guests congregate and listen to the sweet strains of music."
